This two and a half hour art focused Unity workshop will span several topics that are important to artists working in Unity. We will start with a brief introduction by Beau Folsom, the Lead of the Unity Demo team in Seattle. This will be followed by some questions for the audience to better gauge the general skill level of the group, and an overview of the topics we will cover. We will be diving into many aspects of the art pipeline, demonstrated with real-world examples. Aspects such as importing various assets, setting up basic animation, lighting, camera effects, textures, and optimization. We will finish out with the Asset Store, and how it can be used in rapid prototyping and still leave a good amount of time for Q&A at the end. These topics will be interspersed with insights and tips & tricks that have been collected over nearly three years of demo work within Unity. The audience will walk away with:
- More efficient workflow practices in Unity
- Ways to achieve fun results without scripting knowledge
- Exposure to Unity features that are often underutilized, and in some cases undocumented, to explore and play with on their own.
Prerequisites:
- Basic knowledge of Unity and a working understanding of PhotoShop and 3D modeling.
What to Bring:
- At the very least, a way to take notes -- Preferably a laptop with Unity 4.3+ installed. The free version is available on our website (www.unity3d.com).
